The Tap Water Quality Test Kit features both an electrolyser and a TDS meter, allowing you to determine your water quality within seconds!
An electrolyser consists of a conductive electrode stack separated by a membrane to which a high voltage and current is applied. This causes an electric current in the water which causes the water to break down into its components. After using the electrolyser, you will see impurities within the water and you can then use the chart pictured to determine what the colours mean and what your water contains.
The kit also comes with a TDS meter, which is a small hand-held device used to indicate the Total Dissolved Solids in a solution. This meter will give you a rapid, accurate idea of how much ‘other’ material is found in your water (such as heavy metals, minerals etc).
Using both components will really help you to determine how good your water quality is!
To Use Electrolyser
1. Take 2 plastic cups and fill them with 2 different types of water (bottled, tap, distilled etc). This helps with comparison process
2. Turn the electrolyser on for 30-60 seconds (max)
3. Turn the electrolyser off before removing it
4. Use the chart to determine water quality
WARNING: DO NOT TURN THE ELECTROLYSER ON UNTIL THE PROBES ARE SUBMERSED INTO THE WATER, AND DO NOT TOUCH THE PROBES WHEN THEY ARE SWITCHED ON! USE PLASTIC CUPS!
Yellow: Acids, flouride & other organic matter
Green: Arsenic, mercury, lead, copper, sodium
Blue: Bacteria, viruses, carcinogens, fertilisers, pesticides, other
Red: Iron, rust, bacteria
White: Lead, zinc, inorganic
Black: Dirty heavy metal
To Use TDS Meter
1. Remove the cap
2. Turn it on and submerse
3. Allow the meter to measure the total dissolved solids
50-150ppm is considered normal/safe for water
1000+ppm is considered unsafe and unfit for human consumption
